Sedgwick County girls hoops wins 2A championship for first-ever title

The Cougars captured their first state title in program history by holding off Merino 47-43 in the Class 2A championship game.

LOVELAND, Colo. — Sedgwick County has a new title: State champions.

The Cougars captured their first title in program history Saturday night, holding off Merino 47-43 in the Class 2A championship game at the Budweiser Events Center.

"For this group it means everything. They worked so hard to get here," head coach Scott Dille said. "The girls stuck together and really ended the season on a high note."

Sedgwick County went 22-5 overall in route to the championship, including a 12-game win streak to close it out. Merino went 23-4 overall as runner-up.
