Two teams familiar with the 5A Softball State Championship stage met on the field Saturday afternoon, the Legend Titans and the Cherokee Trail Cougars.

The Titans, defending state champs, played their way into the title game against the Cougars who had won the year prior at Aurora Sports Park.

Legend found themselves in the lead in the 2nd inning 1-0 and they extended their lead after a three-run shot in the 4th inning by Lauren Griggs to make it 4-1.

They would score three more runs for a 7-1 lead before Cherokee Trails' Hunter Gilbreath gave them a scare in the 6th inning. Gilbreath would hit her second home run of the year at the best time to bring her team life late.

The Cougars now only trailed 7-3.

Pitching proved to be the difference late for Legend. Senior Zoey LeCompte pitched five innings with two runs allowed and sophomore Bella Mumford pitched a little over an inning with also two runs allowed.

Legend would repeat as the 5A Softball State Champions after an 8-4 victory over the Cougars and finish the season 20-9.
