The Colorado High School Activities Association is welcoming back one of its own. Rhonda Blanford-Green was formally introduced as CHSAA's new commissioner this week.

She will be the first woman and first African-American to hold the position.

Blanford-Green is a former national sprint and hurdles record-holder from Aurora Central High School. She attended the University of Nebraska, where she earned 18 conference titles in the indoor and outdoor hurdles. Blanford-Green would go on to captain several U.S. Track and Field teams that competed internationally.

After 16 years with CHSAA where she served as an administrator, Blanford-Green left for Nebraska where she would become the Executive Director of the Nebraska School Activities Association in 2012. She was most recently serving as the Assistant Executive Director of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.

Blanford-Green will resume her position as the ninth CHSAA commissioner on July 1, 2017. She will replace Paul Angelico, who will be retiring at the end of this school year.

The former track star sat down with 9NEWS to talk about her historic hiring and homecoming, how her athletic career set her up for success professionally, and the direction she sees high school sports moving in Colorado.
