PARKER – Rock Canyon shut out Chaparral in the second half on the road Thursday evening to win a top-10 boys lacrosse matchup.
The Jaguars entered the game ranked No. 7 in Class 5A, while the Wolverines had just jumped into the most recent CHSAA rankings at No. 10.
Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first quarter and for the majority of the first half. Rock Canyon then returned from halftime to extend its lead to secure the 10-5 victory.
Leading the Jaguars offensively was Justin Hansen's team-high three goals. Jackson Naylor and Sean Hicks scored two goals each. Jake Likes, William Edell and Cooper McNeily contributed one goal apiece.
Rock Canyon also had a solid performance from goaltender Jack Thompson, who saved 24 of the 29 shots he faced in net.
The majority of Chaparral's scoring came from Jake McIntyre, who put in three goals. Blake Platt and Austin Schwartz scored one each.
No. 7 Rock Canyon improves to 8-2 overall with a 3-0 mark in Douglas County League play.
No. 10 Chaparral falls to 7-4, 2-1 DCL.
