One of the most popular players in franchise history, McCaffrey did it all during his nine seasons in Denver. He made 462 catches and is third in career touchdown catches with 46. He has played 13 seasons in the NFL and earned three Super Bowl rings, two with Denver and one with San Francisco.

McCaffrey, 35, suffered a broken leg in the first game of 2001 and had two concussions in three weeks last season.

"The last three years, I've seen this guy take a lot of heat. I'm talking about on the field," teammate Rod Smith said.

"Every time he gets hit in a game, I'm like, 'Please get up, please get up.' And it's been a lot more frequent the last two years," Smith said.

The Broncos have also told McCaffrey they wanted to cut his $4.5 million base salary for next season to help get under the salary cap.

Congenial and articulate, McCaffrey is a fan favorite and was often greeted with chants of "Ed-dy! Ed-dy!" when he took the field.
