The chance of reaching the postseason continues to dwindle for the Colorado Rockies.

In a crucial late-season road series against Los Angeles, the Rockies fell flat as the Dodgers completed their three-game sweep with a 5-2 win Wednesday night.

It pits Colorado 2 1/2 games back of Los Angeles for the N.L. West division title and 1 1/2 back from St. Louis for the final Wild Card spot.

According to MLB.com, the Rockies now have a 25% chance of advancing to the postseason. That number has dropped significantly over the past week after reaching its peak of 69% back on Sept. 13.

In Wednesday's loss, the Rockies received a respectable performance from starting pitcher Tyler Anderson, who has struggled as of late. Anderson allowed two runs and just three hits while recording four strikeouts through six innings pitched.

He exited with the game tied 2-2, but a pinch-hitting Yasiel Puig later proved to be the difference. Puig filled in at the bottom of the seventh inning, when he connected on a three-run home run off reliever Scott Oberg, who was dealt the loss (7-1).

"We thought he (Oberg) could go out and get Puig. Today it didn't work out," manager Bud Black said in his post-game press conference. "This one is tough."

Arenado still struggling

The recent offensive struggles continued for Nolan Arenado, who finished Wednesday's game 1-for-4 with three consecutive strikeouts to begin the game.

All three of his strikeouts came without any outs, two of them with multiple teammates on base, including a bases-loaded situation in the first frame.

Next up

Colorado will have Thursday off before continuing its road swing with a three-game series at Arizona beginning at 7:40 p.m. Friday.

The Rockies will then return home to play Philadelphia and Washington to close out the regular season, now with 10 games left to play.
