Kinsler breaks silence on Hamilton relapse

Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler told MLB.com that he supports Josh Hamilton, and said the Rangers outfielder is "doing what he's always done. He's being open, up front and honest about it. It's not my place to talk about it."
Ian Kinsler, right, talked with MLB.com about teammate Josh Hamilton's relapse with alcohol.

Texas Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler is talking about Josh Hamilton's relapse with alcohol.

Hamilton is a recovering drug addict and alcoholic, and he admitted drinking at Dallas restaurant last month, then heading to a bar a block away and drinking some more.

That's where he met up with Kinsler, who said Hamilton hid his drinking from him.

On Sunday, Kinsler told MLB.com that he supports Hamilton, and said the Rangers outfielder is doing what he's always done. He's being open, up front and honest about it. It's not my place to talk about it.

Kinsler added that all of Hamilton's teammates and coaches will be there for him as spring training starts. Josh took care of it and said what he needed to say. People can say what they want to say, MLB.com reported.

Kinsler made the comments at the Rangers' spring training facility in Surprise, Arizona as he dropped off some equipment.

The first official workout for position players is a week away.
