After years of talk and months of speculation on sports blogs, executives in Louisville, Kentucky, have stepped into the light to pursue a professional basketball franchise for the city.

And a former Denver Nuggets player and coach is leading the charge.

Hall-of-fame player Dan Issel is the new president of the Louisville Basketball Investment and Support Group, a Kentucky-based limited liability company that was founded in 2016 to pursue an NBA franchise, according to an announcement from the group.

The announcement says that more than 20 investors have created a pool of $750,000 in startup capital to get the movement off the ground and start making Louisville "NBA-ready" should the league be interested in expansion in the future.
