FORT COLLINS, Colo — There's a "new normal" for everything these days -- and sports are no exception.

Although not many people may be thinking about football season quite yet, spring is an important time for college programs to get on track and map out the rest of the year.

That process for new CSU head coach Steve Addazio was already going to be a challenging task as he begins his first year with the Rams. But throw in the social distancing order of the coronavirus pandemic and it's more like piecing together a puzzle.

But the Rams are making it work through technology, having team meetings and film sessions -- getting as close to "normal" as possible -- with the help of the internet.

"I'm speaking and I'm usually running the PowerPoint or the video ... Then I run the meeting. It's kind of strange because I'm a big eye-contact guy but you're just sort of talking into you computer," Addazio said.

"It's different but it works."

Addazio is still in the process of moving to Fort Collins from Cape Cod, Massachusetts while trying to stay on track with recruiting.

Five months from Rocky Mountain Showdown

Addazio did address the first game on his team's schedule, describing it as "A race to September 5th."

The Rams will host in-state rival CU-Boulder at Canvas Stadium that Saturday in the first Rocky Mountain Showdown post-Mile High, and last before the series takes a break for a couple years.

"That's coming like a freight train, and on that day there's going to be a winner and a loser," Addazio said. "We're going to do everything in our power to be on top on that day."
