Broncos fan starts GoFundMe to buy out Paxton Lynch's contract

The since-deleted campaign went viral, but few fans were willing to actually back it.

USA TODAY SPORTS — Paxton Lynch certainly looks like a bust.

The former first-round pick is entering his third season in the NFL and he looked lost in the Broncos’ preseason opener last weekend.

Most fans in Denver want him off the roster, replaced by first-year quarterback Chad Kelly. Unfortunately, cutting Lynch would cost more than keeping him.

This season, Lynch is set to have a cap hit of $2,584,444, according to Spotrac.com. Cutting him would result in a “dead money” cap hit of $4,457,407. So the team would lose $1,872,963 in salary cap space if they release Lynch.

To help make up that deficit, a Broncos fan named Nick Andrew has started a GoFundMe page with the intent of buying out the quarterback’s contract. The since-deleted campaign went viral, but few fans were willing to actually back it.

Launched on Saturday, the campaign raised $80 from 12 people.

As of Monday evening, the campaign had disappeared from the GoFundMe website. So far, it's unclear if the site itself deleted it of if Andrew wised up and pulled it himself.
