ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — There aren't many statistics to pass along regarding Broncos new fullback Michael Burton.
In eight seasons with five clubs he has 28 career rushing attempts for 62 yards. He does have 123 yards receiving off 18 catches.
Battering ram fullbacks like the 6-foot, 243-pound Burton aren't for Fantasy points, though. They're for helping to clear the way for real-time points in a football games.
After spending the past two seasons with the mighty Kansas City Chiefs, Burton joined the Broncos on Tuesday on a one-year contract agreement.
The Chiefs have defeated the Broncos in 15 straight games, a skid that dates back more than 7 years. Burton is also coming off a Super Bowl championship season with the Chiefs.
So Burton can help give the Broncos a fresh perspective with their AFC West rival. A big factor in Burton's decision to join the Broncos was head coach Sean Payton. They were together in New Orleans during the COVID season of 2020.
Burton played 21 percent of the offensive snaps that year. By comparison, he only played 6 percent of Andy Reid's offensive snaps in Kansas City last season.
Burton, 31 and a 5th-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions in 2015, will replace Andrew Beck, the Broncos' fullback/H-Back of the previous four seasons who reached agreement on a two-year, $6.25 million deal Monday with the Houston Texans.
After reaching agreements with six players Monday for a combined contract value of $219.25 million, the Broncos followed it up Tuesday by adding two part-time backfield players in Samaje Perine and Burton.
