Denver Broncos, Elway donate a combined $550,000 to Colorado COVID-19 relief fund

Money from the fund will go towards helping Colorado communities and organizations impacted by the outbreak.

DENVER — The Denver Broncos and their general manager have stepped up in a big way to help Coloradans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team announced last week a $500,000 contribution to the Colorado COVID Relief Fund, which was created to support Colorado communities and organizations impacted by the recent outbreak.

In addition, general manager John Elway said Thursday he would be donating an extra $50,000 of his own money to the cause.

“You all know me from throwing touchdowns. But it’s your turn to be the quarterback. Our fellow Coloradans need our help,” Elway said in a video posted on the Denver Broncos twitter page.

Elway also shared some of the many ways Coloradans can help out, like volunteering, giving blood or donating to HelpColoradoNow.org.

“It’s times like these we that we all need to do our part,” Elway added.

In a statement, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis thanked the team and Elway for their support:

“Year after year, Coloradans have supported our Denver Broncos, and today I am beyond proud to thank the Denver Broncos for their support of Coloradans in our time of need,” Polis said. “The Broncos’ support of the COVID-19 relief fund will help ensure that communities in every corner of the state receive the relief they deserve and the resources they need to navigate this crisis.”
