Grandma travels to Dew Tour in hopes of seeing grandson qualify for Olympics

It’s less than two months before the 2018 Winter Games. Dew Tour VP Adam Cozens says excitement is building.

At the Breckenridge Resort, elevation 10,500 feet, a woman known as Huppy traveled all the way from Michigan to see her grandson compete in the Dew Tour.

She took a brisk ride up the mountain in a snowmobile to get to the base of the Dew Tour Superpipe.

Huppy’s grandson is Colorado snowboarder Ryan Wachendorfer. Since the Dew Tour is also an Olympic Qualifier, Huppy knew she needed to be there.

“She flew out here, rode up on a snowmobile, it’s crazy,” Wachendorfer said.

With less than two months before the 2018 Winter Games, Dew Tour VP Adam Cozens says excitement is building.

"We’re excited to be an Olympic qualifier for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard team,” Cozens said.

The world’s best snowboarders and skiers are competing in slopestyle and the halfpipe events this weekend.

“You will have representation from Canada, Korea, Japan – you name it,” Cozens said. “It is truly an international field of athletes.”

It’s a big reason Huppy was determined to make it to Breckenridge.

“This is a special event,” Huppy said. “We’re hoping for Korea, it will be wonderful."

Who knows, maybe this February she’ll have to make a trip to South Korea.
