After Rockies shortstop Trevor Story left the game early in Game 1 against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, Calif. with an elbow injury, the original worry was possibly the Rockies finishing the season without the talented shortstop.

After test results Tuesday, Story may be able to come back within a few games according to Rockies Manager Bud Black.

"Trevor's doing better," Black told media prior to Game 2 against the Dodgers. "We got pretty good results this afternoon just moments ago from the doctors and radiologists and the people who study Trevor's elbow."

He has strained his elbow but they're hoping it is not too serious after tests.

"So looks as though there's some inflammation, a little bit of soreness around the joint, but structurally the joint is intact," Black continued. "The ligament seems to be fine, he stressed it a little bit on the throw and on the swing but overall there's some inflammation we hope will quiet down and hopefully in a few days he will be back playing."

Garrett Hampson started the game on Tuesday evening in place of Story at shortstop, while Pat Valaika and Ian Desmond are also ready to take over the position if needed.

The absence of Story at shortstop would be a major blow to the Rockies lineup if the injury is worse, especially with the team heading toward its final week of the season and postseason hopes around the corner.

So far Story is hitting .288 with a .893 on-base-plus slugging percentage and a career-high 33 RBI while playing Gold Glove defense.

"As it comes to shortstop the next couple days, rule number 1, be ready for anything.," Black said.
