COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training centers in Colorado Springs and Lake Placid have closed their facilities due to the coronavirus outbreak.
According to NBC Sports, resident athletes in Colorado Springs will be allowed to stay and use the dining and medical facilities, but all athletic operations are shut down.
The announcement comes after both Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced all restaurants and gyms must close, and the CDC recommended all gatherings of 50-plus people be canceled for eight weeks.
Athletes are left scrambling for ways to train, with the Olympic trials set for June 19th and the Olympic games scheduled to begin July 24th.
“”We are we are working with athletes and their coaches to find safe alternative solutions for our athletes to train,” USA Gymnastics said in an email statement.
