Denver Business Journal — NASA has awarded Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corporation a $113.2 million contract to help build a next-generation space telescope.

According to NASA, the Colorado company will design, analyze, develop, fabricate, integrate, test and evaluate the Wide Field Instrument Opto-Mechanical Assembly for the upcoming Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST) mission.

Scientists are very excited about the WFIRST telescope. They say it will provide images 100 times larger than those produced by the Hubble telescope.

"The mission’s wide field of view will allow it to generate never-before-seen big pictures of the universe, which will help astronomers explore some of the greatest mysteries of the cosmos, including why the expansion of the universe seems to be accelerating," according to the telescope's NASA website.
