2 dead after crashing into same semi-truck minutes apart in Weld Co.

Alcohol and drugs are suspected in both crashes, according to Colorado State Patrol.

WELD COUNTY, Colo. — Two drivers are dead after crashing into the same semi-truck just minutes apart in Weld County early Saturday morning, according to Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

The first crash took place at 1:20 a.m. when a Chevy Silverado pickup truck going south on Weld County Road 49 crossed the center line near Weld County Road 30 and hit the northbound semi-truck, Master Trooper Gary Cutler said.

Authorities said the driver of the pickup truck, a 27-year-old Keenesburg man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi-truck driver, identified as a 67-year-old Greeley man, was not injured according to CSP.

Investigators said alcohol and drugs are suspected in the crash.

CSP said the second crash took place six minutes later when a Subaru Impreza going north on Weld County Road 49 hit the semi-truck, which was stopped on the side of the road.

Authorities said the driver, identified as a 30-year-old Wheat Ridge woman, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

CSP said drugs and alcohol are suspected in the second crash, as well.
