BOULDER, Colo. — Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is investigating a crash northwest of Boulder that left a 16-year-old girl dead.

The crash occurred in the 2000 block of Lee Hill Drive in Boulder County early Saturday morning. The vehicle involved in the crash, a 2004 Jeep Cherokee, went off the road into a deep embankment, according to Cpl. Ivan Alvarado with CSP.

The driver was overdue at a friend’s home on Lee Hill Drive when the driver's friend went looking for them, according to Mike Wagner, Operations Division Commander with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. That was when the friend discovered the crash.

Fire and rescue personnel who responded to the scene confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was deceased.

CSP is still investigating the crash. There are no road closures in place.
