AURORA, Colo. — Eastbound Interstate 70 reopened from Aurora to the Kansas state line Thursday morning.
CDOT tweeted at 7:33 a.m., that eastbound lanes had reopened.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) said the interstate was closed earlier Thursday morning due to safety concerns from Exit 292 (Airpark Road) to Kansas.
Snow squalls passed through Colorado late Wednesday into Thursday, leaving patches of snow and ice on roads on the eastern Colorado plains, as well as in the mountains west of Denver.
There could be a few lingering morning snow showers over the northeast this Thursday morning with clouds and gusty winds. Skies will gradually clear through the afternoon with clear and cold conditions tonight.
Sunshine returns with much warmer temperatures Friday, with Saturday being mild under partly sunny skies. A weak cold front will drop the temperatures somewhat on Sunday with more clouds than sunshine.
Fair weather with temperatures above normal should continue next week ahead of our next system that will bring cooler weather and a chance for snow by midweek.

Colorado chain and traction laws
The CDOT urged travelers to be aware of chain and traction law codes before heading out on the roadway:
- Code 18/Commercial Chain Law: Commercial vehicles and trucks must have chains. Vehicles without chains can often lose traction, causing traffic delays and sometimes road closures. For the safety of the traveling public, it's critical to use chains to comply with Colorado's chain law.
- Code 15/Passenger Traction Law: All passenger vehicles must have appropriate all-weather tires with 3/16-inch depth. Vehicles must have one of the following: winter tires, tires with mud/snow (M+S) designation, chains or alternative traction devices such as an autosock. 4WD and AWD vehicles must have winter tires or all-weather tires.
- Code 16/Passenger Chain Law: All passenger vehicles need chains, except for 4WD and AWD vehicles with all-weather tires with 3/16-inch tread depth.
