1 dead following Wednesday morning crash in Longmont

The crash happened in the 500 block of Main Street around 12:30 a.m., Wednesday.

LONGMONT, Colo. — The Longmont Police Department (LPD) is investigating a fatal crash that happened in the 500 block of Main Street, according to police.

Around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, police say a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on Main Street when the pickup struck the center median and a light pole at the mid-block crosswalk.

Investigators were on scene of the crash and reopened the road at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The driver of the pickup died at the scene, according to police. The driver was tentatively identified as a 31-year-old Longmont resident.

Police are investigating reckless driving, speed and alcohol or drugs as contributing factors for the crash.

The full identity of the driver will be released by the Boulder County Coroner's Office once a positive ID is made and next of kin have been notified.
