DENVER — The existing southbound Colorado Boulevard loop ramp to eastbound Interstate 70 will close permanently Friday morning, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced Thursday.
As part of CDOT's Central 70 Project, motorists will now turn left at a signalized intersection to access eastbound I-70.
CDOT said the rebuilding of the Colorado Boulevard and I-70 interchange will improve safety.
"Over the past few decades, new interchange designs have been implemented with less-curved exit ramps to reduce congestion and improve safety," a statement from CDOT reads.
The Central 70 project will upgrade a 10 mile stretch of I-70 between Brighton Boulevard and Chambers Road. CDOT said about 200,000 vehicles travel that part of the interstate each day.
The $1.2 billion project is expected to be completed in 2022. You can learn more about the Central 70 Project at central70.codot.gov.
