Man drove car into hole on Denver street where workers repaired broken water main

Westbound MLK Boulevard is closed due at Dahlia Street due to the incident.

DENVER — A man somehow managed to drive his car into a hole on Martin Luther King Boulevard that was not yet filled in after repairs were made to a water main break on the roadway, according to Tweet from Denver Water.

"I thought I just hit a, hit a dip, not realizing I put it in a hole," said Frank Ross. "And now I've busted up their pipe that they just replaced.. so I don't know what is going to happen with that."

Denver Water said overnight crews repaired a 12-inch main near on Martin Luther King Boulevard between Dahlia Street and Cherry Street.

Ross was driving to his job at Enterprise when he went past barricades and drove into the hole.

"I'm stupid, I mean I feel like an idiot for doing that," Ross said. "I was going to work, that's what I was doing, and next thing I know, I'm not at work I'm in a hole."

Denver Water said Ross's car went into the hole after repairs were made. Once the car is removed, Denver Water workers will determine if more repairs are needed and provide on an update about when the road might reopen.

No injuries were reported, according to a Tweet from Denver Police.

Westbound Martin Luther King Boulevard is closed at Dahlia Street, Denver police said. It's unclear when the westbound lanes of Martin Luther King Boulevard might reopen. Drivers should avoid the area.
