Boeing 737 Max may not fly until 2020, report says

American Airlines and Southwest Airlines have cancelled thousands of flights this year due to the 737 Max's grounding.

COLORADO, USA — Getting the Boeing 737 Max back in the sky is taking longer than most expected.

The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday the Max's grounding could stretch until 2020, citing Federal Aviation Administration officials and pilot union leaders.

Such a delay would not only hamstring carriers during the busy summer travel season, but the holidays as well.

In April, when explaining the airline's reasoning for cancelling flights through Aug. 19, American Airlines Group Inc. (Nasdaq: AAL) Chief Executive Doug Parker said on an earnings call the airline was confident the plane would return to service by August.
