IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. — A lane closure this week on westbound Interstate 70 in the Idaho Springs area could cause traffic delays of up to an hour, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) said.
Crews were working to complete paving on the new westbound I-70 Mountain Express Lane.
Daytime closures between Exit 240 (CO 103 / Mt. Evans) and Exit 238 (Fall River Road) started on Sunday. They will continue 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Nightly single lane closures will also take place through Thursday.
CDOT said it will make every effort to have two travel lanes open during the day on Fridays and Saturdays, but there still could be some construction-related impacts.
According to CDOT, the express lane is expected to open in early 2021. Once it is open, tolls will be waived until summer or fall of 2021, after tolling infrastructure is put in place and tested.
