Denver Water says discolored water reported at DIA restaurants is safe

Denver Water tweeted that crews tested the water at several locations around the concourse and that it's an "aesthetics issue."

DENVER — Discolored water was reported in at least eight restaurants at Denver International Airport (DIA) on Friday, according to Tammy Vigil with the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment.

The discolored water, which only impacted business in Concourse C, had a yellowish tint to it, Vigil said. The issue was first noticed on Friday morning.

Denver Water tweeted that crews tested the water at several locations around the concourse and "all results show [parameters] within drinking water standards — verifying that there have been no impacts to water quality."

"This [was] purely an aesthetics issue," Denver Water said in its tweet.

Denver Water spokesperson Travis Thompson said they have since flushed the water and that it's clear now.

"Discoloration can be caused by a construction project shaking the pipes, stirring up sediment," he said.

Alex Renteria, a spokesperson for DIA, said the restaurants and concessions that closed due to the issue have since reopened.
