Denver users of the popular rideshare app Uber will soon see a new feature - the ability to see what mass transit options are available to take them to their destination and the directions to get there.

Uber partnered with Colorado's Regional Transportation District to enable Denver riders to be the first worldwide "to see and consider transit routes presented within the Uber app."

The partnership was announced on Thursday in a joint press release from RTD and Uber.

"Establishing partnerships with providers such as Uber enables the transit agency to best meet the needs, demands and expectations of a growing population, at a time when the industry is in a state of change," a release announcing the partnership read.

This partnership is the first of its kind for Uber; the rideshare giant said it is using Denver as a launch pad.

"This is Uber’s first in-app integration with public transit, and we’re excited it’s happening in Denver, thanks to our partnership with RTD,” said David Reich, Uber’s head of transit.

Accessing this feature within the Uber app will be made simple - after riders enter a destination, they will see “Transit” as an option. From there, users will be able to see available transit routes, real-time schedules, and walking directions to and from transit stations.

Uber said eventually, Denver riders will be able to purchase and use RTD tickets through its app.
