United Airlines wound up on the wrong end of the official results in the November on-time arrivals derby.
According to the numbers just released by airline data behemoth OAG, United finished in fourth and last place among the four largest domestic carriers with 76.7 percent of flights arriving on time last month.
The United States Department of Transportation considers a flight to have arrived on time if it reaches the gate within 14 minutes of its scheduled arrival time.
United’s on-time arrival numbers have been trending downwards in recent months as the Chicago-based carrier grapples with the rather challenging fact that it has major hubs in San Francisco and Newark/New York where there is considerable air traffic congestion and frequent ground holds due to weather that can quickly wreak havoc on flight schedules.
For sure, it also didn’t help in November that a nasty blizzard hit Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, United’s largest hub, on the very day when tens of thousands of travelers were trying to get back from their Thanksgiving holidays.
