Morning rain clears to afternoon wind; mountain snow ends this afternoon

It's spring in Colorado, which means that today's storm system is leading to a little bit of everything from rain to storms to snow to more pesky wind.

DENVER — THE FORECAST BY: Meteorologist Chris Bianchi

TODAY AT A GLANCE: We've got a few morning rain showers this morning around the Denver area, and some rumbles of thunder east of the city. The rain will end pretty quickly this morning, but the wind will be our main story once again on this Tuesday.

Rain showers could lead to a tenth to a quarter inch of accumulation this morning in the Denver area, the first measurable precipitation for most of the metro area in 10 days.

Otherwise, the wind will be our main story today. High Wind Warnings are up for Fort Collins and areas north and east of Denver, with gusts up to 65 mph in Fort Collins and 70 mph in some spots on the Eastern Plains. But the good news with today's wind is it won't last all that long; winds relax quickly tonight, though it'll stay breezy across eastern Colorado for tomorrow.

In the mountains, some areas picked up well over a foot of snow overnight. That snow will continue this morning before fizzling out this afternoon. Any last flakes should be done by tonight, but not before a few more inches' worth of accumulation in the mountains.

Tomorrow looks like a bit of an in-between day, with more sun than clouds but continued windy conditions at times, especially east of Denver. Highs should push into the low 70s under those mostly sunny skies. Another cold front arrives on Thursday, and that'll usher in a much chillier and more unsettled end to the work week.

That front will lead to some lighter scattered showers on Thursday, and those could mix with a bit of snow in the foothills (little, if any accumulation). Precipitation amounts look light on Thursday, though it'll be chilly with our high temperature stuck in the upper 40s (average high: low 60s).

Our best chance for rain or snow will come with another cold front on Friday night and into Saturday morning, when we'll get a mix that could flip over to a brief period of snow in the Denver area. Accumulations look light, but it's a worthy reminder that winter isn't over yet.

In classic Colorado style, we'll warm back up quickly Sunday and Monday, with 70s looking likely next week.
