Cooler weather returns with metro area rain and snow

Sunshine and 70s today ahead of a series of storms that will bring cloudy, cooler weather and rain and snow showers through Saturday

DENVER — THE FORECAST BY: Meteorologist Laurann Robinson

FORECAST AT A GLANCE: One more warm dry day today, ahead of cooler, wet weather through the rest of the week.

Wednesday, we'll see breezy winds, with afternoon highs in the upper 60s/lower 70s, across the front range/eastern plains. Most areas will stay dry, but counties to the north should watch for scattered, light rain showers.

To the south, the southern half of the I-25 corridor, as well as the San Luis Valley, will be under Red Flag Warnings, today and tomorrow. These areas should watch for gusty winds and dry air to increase fire danger.

Overnight, scattered showers to the north move out, leaving cloudy skies and gusty winds. Lows drop into the middle 30s.

By Thursday morning, a cold front will bring many of us some light snowfall! Light snow showers will start in the mountains west of Denver, then move into the urban corridor during the later morning hours. The front range isn't expecting any accumulation, just some flurries as you're out for your morning commute. Additionally, this same front will drop afternoon highs nearly 20 degrees, into the lower 50s.

We'll stay cooler, Friday and Saturday, with highs peaking in the middle 50s. Prepare for scattered showers and isolated storms, both days. Right now, none of the storms are looking to be severe. We'll just watch for gusty winds, lightning and thunder.

We clear up and dry out for the second half of our weekend. Sunny skies return Sunday and Monday, with only slight rain chances and highs reaching the lower 70s.

By next Tuesday and Wednesday, expect partial cloud cover, with highs climbing even further, into the middle to upper 70s.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy, breezy and mild, with sct'd showers to the north, high 71; mostly cloudy and breezy overnight, 36.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy and much cooler, with early flurries, high 50; mostly cloudy overnight, low 35.

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy and cool, with rain showers and spotty storms, high 56; mostly cloudy with snow likely overnight, low 35.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy and cool, with scattered rain showers and spotty storms, high 54; mostly cloudy overnight, low 36.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny and warmer, with slight rain chances, high 70; partly cloudy overnight, low 43.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, with slight rain chances, high 71; partly cloudy overnight, low 45.
