Cloudy, cold weather with more rain and snow tonight, Friday

Chilly and unsettled weather is forecast through Saturday. A series of cold fronts will move across Colorado bringing freezing rain, snow showers through Saturday

DENVER — THE FORECAST BY: Meteorologist Chris Bianchi

FORECAST AT A GLANCE: So...it's a tad different today compared to yesterday.

We woke up to gray skies and drizzle and even light snow in a few spots on this Thursday, just hours after we topped out at 73 degrees in Denver on Wednesday afternoon. Today's precipitation looks low impact, but it does look unsettled for the next couple of days with a better chance for some snow for Friday night and early on Saturday morning.

Today will stay gray and chilly, with highs stuck in the low 40s in Denver, about 30 degrees colder than Wednesday's highs. It stays gray with maybe a few peeks of sun south of town, but even that seems unlikely. We'll have some occasional drizzle and perhaps a few snow showers around, mainly this morning. Expect little or no accumulation from any of those snow showers.

Again, the (very) chilly weather will be the story for today!

In the mountains, we'll have a few snow showers mainly along and north of I-70. Even here, we won't have a ton of accumulation, with maybe 1-3 inches through the day today and tonight.

The jet stream moves overhead tomorrow, and that'll help kick up a better chance for a rain/snow mix tomorrow night and Saturday morning. We'll have a few peeks of sunshine tomorrow, and that'll boost temperatures into the low-to-mid 50s around the metro area (colder in the mountains).

Later in the day, though, rain showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder or two likely develop, probably after about 3 p.m. Those rain showers likely flip over to snow after dark tomorrow night, with the potential for 1-3 inches of lower impact, slushy accumulation on colder surfaces like car tops and grass. The snow should end by Saturday morning, though it stays mainly gray and cold for Saturday before a few peeks of late day sun.

We'll warm up Sunday and into early next week, with highs back near 70 by Sunday and we'll be near 80 mid-week! Until then, grab a hot cup of...something and spend some time underneath a warm blanket!
