Operations returning to normal at DIA following severe weather

Normal operations are resuming at DIA following a round of severe weather on Sunday that forced a ground stop.

COLORADO, USA — About 30 flights have been canceled for Monday in and out of Denver International Airport after a round of severe weather went through the area on Sunday.

Online flight tracking site FlightAware also shows 23 delays.

Due to that storm, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered a ground stop for the airport at 4:30 p.m Sunday. Aircraft bound for Denver were being held at originating airports.

The order was canceled just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a tweet from the airport, but delays were expected as the airport got back to normal operations.

Tyler Michel posted a video to Twitter saying his flight was diverted to Colorado Springs during the storm, and that the plane "felt like it was going to split apart."

A  spokesperson for United told 9NEWS Sunday night, “United flight 314 from Los Angeles to Denver diverted to Colorado Springs due to severe weather in the Denver area. The plane is expected to depart Colorado Springs shortly for Denver.”

That spokesperson said no one on that flight was injured but said two customers did get off the plane in Colorado Springs for medical problems that were unrelated to the flight itself.

As of 7 p.m. Sunday, five flights had been diverted to the Colorado Springs, a spokesperson for the airport said.

Weather caused issues in other parts of the state, too. The National Weather Service in Cheyanne tweeted a photo of more than 4 inches of hail on Interstate 25.
