KUSA — Grab your gear and get ready to ski! Arapahoe Basin Ski Area (A-Basin) and Loveland Ski Area will both open for the season this weekend.

At A-Basin, the Black Mountain Express lift will start turning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct.16. It gives skiers and snowboarders access to the intermediate High Noon trail. They'll continue to make snow as weather permits with the goal of opening additional terrain.

Loveland Ski Area announced that it will open Saturday, Oct. 20. Chet’s Dream will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and will offer skiers and riders access to one top-to-bottom run covered from tree-to-tree with an 18 inch base. The trails Catwalk, Mambo and Home Run make up this Opening Day run which is over a mile in length and nearly one thousand vertical feet. Early season lift tickets for Loveland are $65 for adults and $31 for children 6-14.

A-Basin and Loveland are among the first ski areas to open in North America. Wolf Creek Ski Area in Pagosa Springs was the first to open in Colorado after a 20-inch snowstorm. They opened Oct. 13, their second earliest opening ever.
