Welcome, autumn: Here's when fall officially arrives Wednesday

The autumnal equinox marks the official start of fall — at least astronomically speaking.

COLORADO, USA — It might not feel like it, but it's about to officially become fall.

The autumnal equinox takes place at 1:21 p.m. on Wednesday, marking the exact time when the earth's tilt is equally tilted towards the sun.

In other words, it means that earth's Northern and Southern hemispheres each get equal sunlight on the equinox (that also happens on the vernal equinox, which denotes the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere).

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, that means we're losing daylight after June's summer solstice, which marked the official start of summer and the longest day of the year in Colorado and on our half of the globe.

If you're curious about the autumnal equinox and what it means and how it works, watch the video above for more.

So with fall officially beginning on Wednesday, we thought it might be fun to put together an unofficial list of the five stages of a Colorado fall.

Feel free to rip apart (or celebrate and/or share) our list below.

We mentioned it's not exactly going to feel like fall on Wednesday. Temperatures will top out in the low 80s, meaning as the equinox takes place at 1:21 p.m. local time on Wednesday, it'll feel far more like summer than autumn.

In the meantime, send us your thoughts on our list above. And of course, more than anything, happy fall!
