Photos show just how frozen Trail Ridge Road still is just days from June

Our late May snow  was of course amplified in the higher elevations, and now current conditions on Trail Ridge Road are tundra-esque.

Rocky Mountain National Park is a fine example of the old adage "what a difference a day makes."

Park officials say last week, Trail Ridge Road was clear and crews had nearly finished digging out Alpine Visitor Center.

Come Wednesday, it's a completely different story.

The late May snow we saw last week in the Denver metro was of course amplified in the higher elevations, and now current conditions on that stretch of U.S. 34 are tundra-esque.

Although it's sunny now, plow operators are dealing with winds and gusts as high as 44 mph, causing snow drifts.Adding to this, rain (and possibly snow) is forecast beginning Thursday at higher elevations, as well as freezing temperatures overnight.
