Winter system will bring snow back to Colorado this week

Windy conditions continue to start the week and then snow is likely in Denver by late Wednesday.

DENVER — After another beautiful Colorado weekend, snow will again make its return to the state in the middle of the week.

The next winter weather system will arrive later this week, bringing the chance for snow in the Denver metro area.

The 9NEWS Weather team said winds will be gusty at times through Wednesday as the system approaches.

Snow moves into the mountains overnight and will continue throughout the day on Tuesday. Gusty winds will accompany this system, so blowing and drifting snow could make traveling very treacherous especially on the mountain passes.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through Tuesday evening for the Park and Elkhead mountains, the Flat Tops, Rabbit Ears Pass, the West Elk and Sawatch mountains. Look for about 5 to 10 inches of new snow along with 50-60 mph gusts.

The system looks as if it will bring light to moderate snow across Colorado with the best chance for snow in Denver area late Wednesday afternoon/early evening through early Thursday.

Because the system is not bringing arctic air, don’t expect below zero readings like with last week’s storm system. Instead, expect highs in the 30s and lows in the teens for the midweek snowfall event.
