Denver Roller Derby Home Team Championships

If you’ve ever wondered what roller derby is all about, this weekend is your chance. The Denver Roller Derby league is hosting the Home Team Championships at the Glitter Dome at 3600 Wynkoop St. on Saturday, April 21. Four Denver-based teams will square off in two bouts starting at 6 pm. Watch the Bad Apples, Orange Crushers, Green Barrettes and Shotgun Betties battle it out in their quest for the league crown. League member Jaime “Slam” Sainte says even if you’ve never seen a roller derby bout before, there’s something for everyone on the rink.

“Roller derby is a full-contact sport, one of the only women’s full contact sports out there,” said Sainte. “I think that’s something the crowd doesn’t see a lot. We’re going 100 percent and they love it, there’re big hits, there’re jammers jumping over you can always tell when something really neat happens on the track even if you don’t see it because you just hear the crowd go crazy.”

You can find $12 tickets at DenverRollerDerby.org until Friday. Tickets for $14 will be available at the door. Kids 12 and under are free.

2018 Denver Spring Wine Festival

If you like your wine with a side of … wine, check out the 2018 Denver Spring Wine Festival on Saturday, April 21 at The Rackhouse pub at 2875 Blake St. The event features more than a dozen wineries, food and drink specials, and wine giveaways. The $35 entry fee gets you 15 tasting tickets. There’s also a limited number of VIP Early Access Tickets for $40. Doors open at 4 pm until 6 pm or 3:30 pm for VIP ticketholders.

Colorado Earth Day

Also, this Saturday, celebrate Colorado Earth Day with the Sierra Club. The event kicks off at 9 am outside the Capitol Building in Denver. The free Earth Day festivities include yoga by Hanuman Festival, a student art competition, a kid zone – and a beer garden.

Rocky Mountain Bridal Show

If saying “I do” is in your near future, check out the Rocky Mountain Bridal Show this Sunday, April 22 at the Colorado Convention Center at 700 14th St. in downtown Denver.
