SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo —
A Sunday forecast that calls for a high of 97 is evidence that it’s very much summer on the Front Range, but in the High Country, winter is always looming.
Less than two months after Arapahoe Basin closed out its ski season with a 4th of July bash, the resort tweeted it saw the “first white stuff” of the 2019/2020 season.
“And so it begins,” wrote Alan Henceroth, A-Basin’s chief operating officer, on his blog. “Not sure if it is snow, hail, sleet, slush or what, but the first white stuff of the season was high on the East Wall this morning.”

Don’t take those ski boots out of the closet just yet though. Arapahoe Basin spokesperson Katherine Fuller said it’s probably not snow.
“I rang ski patrol and they said the Basin had a big storm last night and it’s big piles of hail up on the mountain, especially since it didn’t get cold enough last night,” she wrote in an email to 9NEWS. “But it’s something!”
Just to be clear, it’s very much still summer. The first day of fall isn’t until Sept. 23.
With that being said, Loveland and A-Basin typically race to get a run open each year, and that typically happens sometime in October.
