Black History Month: Retired US Army nurse recalls serving in first integrated military hospitals

African American nurses have served throughout our nation's history, dating back to the Civil War. But it was not until 1948, when President Truman desegregated the military, that these nurses were able to serve in integrated hospitals around the world. Lt. Colonel Martha Baker, in Colorado, was one of them.
