Dr. Papidies: Colorado's $1 million dog

PARKER - A little Chihuahua from Parker has been awarded one million dollars, after winning the "cutest dog competition" from the All American Pet Brands Company. Instead of keeping the money, his owners decided to give it away.

Dr. Leslie Capin entered her dog "Dr. Papidies" in the competition more than 12 weeks ago.

"Never in my wildest, wildest dreams did I imagine that he would beat 60,000 dogs across the country to be crowned the million dollar dog!" she said.

"Dr. Papidies" was rescued from a puppy mill. He was given to Dr. Leslie Capin by one of her friends.

Dr. Capin promised herself if she won, she would donate all of the money to two animal shelters in Colorado. The Max Fund would receive $500,000 and The Dumb Friends League would receive the other $500,000.

"It's really going to make a difference for thousands of animals in our community. We care for over 25,000 pets every year," said Kristina Vourax with the Dumb Friends League.

"It's such a great gift that Leslie gave, that Dr. Papadies gave. He is the cutest dog, but what it represents is amazing," said Heidi Hahn with the Max Fund.

Dr. Capin will receive the money within five days. She plans on giving the first installment to the animal shelters next week.

"This is like the perfect time to be able to give a million dollars where it's really needed! To all those little furry friends of Papidies!" Capin said.
