Sonny managed to get stuck in the middle of a frozen pond Thursday night in Grand Junction.

His owner, Erin Gallegos, stayed off the thing ice and instead called for help.

Grand Juction Fire crews grabbed a boogie board and headed out on the thin ice, slowly inching towards the dog.

One rescuer managed to grab Sonny and pull him from the water before scooting him along the ice.

Crews believe he was in the subfreezing water for more than 30 minutes but he is expected to be OK.
