FEDERAL HEIGHTS, Colo. — A man wanted since December in connection with a fatal stabbing in Federal Heights was arrested in Mexico, the 17th District Attorney's Office said on Thursday.
On Dec. 30, officers responded to a report of a woman who had been stabbed outside the Tuscan Heights Apartments, at 1700 W. 85th Ave. Police, Fire and EMS personnel found the victim, 20-year-old Sachely Diaz. She was taken to North Suburban Hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Days after the killing, police identified Adrian Carracedo-Vega, 35, as the suspect. At the time, they said he and Diaz were known to each other but declined to provide additional details about their relationship.
They also said they believed that Carracedo-Vega was headed to Texas and was likely to cross the border into Mexico.
The district attorney's office said Carracedo-Vega was "recently" apprehended in Mexico with assistance from the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. He has since been extradited to Colorado, where he is charged with first-degree murder. He's set to make his first court appearance on April 25.
