KUSA — A woman has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for the death of her 3-month-old son, who prosecutors said had “abusive head trauma.”
Bethany Smith, 23, pleaded guilty to negligent child abuse causing death and first-degree assault earlier this year.
According to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office, on May 20, 2016, first responders were called to Smith’s home and found her 3-month-old son Skyler non-responsive.
In addition to head trauma, he also had a fractured arm and rib, prosecutors said.
Once Smith is released from prison, she will have a mandatory five-year period of parole.
