Avalanche advance to second round of NHL playoffs with win over Jets in Game 5

Colorado closed out its opening-round playoff series, defeating Winnipeg 4-1 in the best-of-seven matchup.

WINNIPEG, MB — Who's next?

The Colorado Avalanche are moving on to the second round of the NHL playoffs against an opponent yet to be determined.

Colorado closed out its opening-round series Tuesday night, defeating the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 in Game 5 to clinch the best-of-seven matchup.

After dropping the playoff opener, the Avalanche responded by stringing together four consecutive wins behind their explosive offense and the improved play of goaltender Alexandar Georgiev.

Colorado scored at least six goals in every game despite Connor Hellebuyck, a finalist for the Vezina Trophy given to the league's best goaltender, defending the Winnipeg net.

The Avalanche advance to face the winner of the Vegas Golden Knights vs. Dallas Stars series, which is currently tied 2-2.
