JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Repairs have begun on the westbound C-470 bridge over westbound Interstate 70 that was hit by a large truck last month.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) said the repair work, which began Monday, will involve repairing three girders and will requires lane closures.

The outside edge of the bridge was damaged Dec. 8 when a tractor trailer with an oversized load tried to drive under the structure and got stuck. The accident closed the westbound lanes for several hours.

CDOT inspectors assessed the bridge in December and determined westbound lanes could reopen until permanent repairs were made. A Colorado State Patrol spokesperson said no injuries were reported in the crash.

The cost of the repairs is $1.8 million, according to CDOT's project website.

CDOT said the damaged asphalt on westbound I-70 under the bridge will be patched, and will be repaved when the weather gets warmer in the spring.
