Showers, storms possible in the Denver area today; mountain snow continues

Our prolonged storm isn't completely over and done with yet, though we should see some peeks of sunshine this morning.

DENVER — THE FORECAST BY: Meteorologist Chris Bianchi

FORECAST AT A GLANCE: A gloomy start to our Sunday should give way to at least a bit of sunshine later this morning in the Denver area before more showers and storms this afternoon, though these won't produce nearly as much rain as what we saw on Friday and Saturday.

In the mountains, heavy snow at times will continue this morning as well. Look for another few inches of slushy accumulation this morning in the high country before the snow gradually starts to slow this afternoon. It should wrap up entirely by tonight.

In the Denver area and across eastern Colorado, we'll briefly break out of the clouds and get some sunshine this morning, but that'll stir up enough energy for some afternoon showers and storms. Look for a few brief showers and rumbles of thunder in the metro area this afternoon, mainly between 2 and 6 p.m.

Skies clear tonight, and we'll finally see a couple days of sun and warmer weather starting on Monday. Highs on Monday should get up near 70, and we'll stay dry tomorrow as well.

Tuesday should be even warmer with a high in the low 70s before more showers and storms return for Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. At this point, there's a fair bit of uncertainty about Thursday's storm system, but it looks chilly and wet for Thursday. We could even have some snow mix in as well. We'll keep you posted with the latest (as always) as the forecast becomes clearer over the next few days.

On the positive side, after a very unsettled few weekends in a row, look for a warmer and drier look to next weekend, with highs in the 60s and 70s!

Careful driving in the high country this morning and watch for a few showers and storms in the metro area this afternoon, and enjoy the drier weather to start the work week!
