Westminster technical educational program teaches high demand skills

WESTMINSTER — Friday morning, Gregg ventured off the traditional business path to visit Westminster Public Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Westminster High School.

The latest figures show that there are 86 middle school CTE programs in Colorado and more than 1,300 secondary CTE programs in our state. The mission of CTE programs and schools is to ensure a thriving Colorado economy by providing relevant and rigorous education that is connected, responsive and real.

CTE students in Westminster Public Schools graduate with high-demand skills and knowledge that lead to higher education opportunities and careers in Colorado’s highest-growth industries.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) is rigorous, hands-on instruction with a focus on industry-relevant knowledge that prepares students for college and career opportunities after high school.

CTE classes in Westminster Public Schools are project-based courses that incorporate current industry challenges, trends and skills.

In CTE, students can:

  • Experience a unique level of relevancy and engagement
  • Choose a career pathway based upon their strengths and interests
  • Graduate with college credits, current industry credentials, and industry experience
  • Students in CTE classes:
  • Work closely with local industries and community leaders
  • Develop meaningful relationships
  • Learn relevant skills that will be a foundation for their careers

Colorado CTE programs are divided into six industry sectors: Agriculture, Natural Resources & Energy; STEM, Arts, Design & Information Technology; Skilled Trades & Technical Sciences; Health Science, Criminal Justice & Public Safety; Hospitality, Human Services & Education; Business, Marketing & Public Administration.
