AURORA, Colo. — The woman shot and killed at an Aurora apartment complex earlier this week was killed a day after her birthday, according to the Arapahoe County coroner's office.
Tyeisha Lynnice Daniel was shot multiple times in a parking lot in the 11800 block of East Archer Place on March 29. That's west of Peoria Street and north of East Alameda Avenue near Aurora Hills Golf Course. Another woman was critically injured in the shooting.
According to the Aurora Police Department (APD), officers responded around 5:10 a.m. to the apartment complex for a welfare check, where they discovered the victims in the parking lot.
Daniel whose 34th birthday was Monday, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting, APD said.
APD did not immediately release any additional information on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or suspect details.
Eleven people have now been murdered in Aurora this year, compared to eight at the same time last year. There have also been 34 non-fatal shootings so far this year in Aurora, compared to 27 this time last year.
"It's heartbreaking to see the ongoing violence that seems to be consuming our city," said Aurora City Councilman Dustin Zvonek.
Zvonek sponsored the Aurora Action Plan, a resolution focused on crime-reduction strategies that was approved by the council Monday night.
"People understand that there is a real threat and fear in our community about the rise in crime," Zvonek said.
Among other things, the action plan calls for recruitment and retention efforts to get Aurora Police to its full-staffing levels, the restoration of the Aurora gang reduction program, and strategies to address the public safety and public health challenges at homeless encampments.

"As a local government, there's only so much we can do, but we've heard loud and clear from our residents who are concerned about crime that they want a plan, they want to see action," Zvonek said.
Amid the violence in Aurora, there have also been questions recently about the job security of Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson.
When asked if he still had faith in Wilson, Zvonek said he had "deep concerns" about her ability to continue to lead the department.

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers works by assigning a code to people who anonymously submit a tip. Information is shared with law enforcement, and Crime Stoppers is notified at the conclusion of the investigation.
From there, an awards committee reviews the information provided and, if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster will be notified. Rewards can be collected using the code numbers received when the tip was originally submitted.
