Several months after first responders were called to a Highlands Ranch home to help a baby that was reportedly not breathing, the baby's father has been arrested in connection to her death.

On May 10, 2017, deputies responded to the 5300 block of Hospitality Place near Parker on a report of a 3-month-old baby not breathing. CPR was in progress.

The home is located southwest of The Pinery off of South Parker Road.

Three-month-old Aliah Howatt was immediately transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased, the sheriff's office said.

In a press release the sheriff's office said, "Subsequently, through interviews and evidence collection, investigators believed to have evidence that supported that James Howatt, Aliah Howatt’s father, is responsible for the death of his daughter."

Howatt was indicted by a grand jury in Dec. 2017 and arrested at his home in Douglas County on Jan. 10.

The 27-year-old father was indicted on charges of child abuse resulting in death.

Howatt is currently being held at the Douglas County Detentions Center on a $25,000 bond.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story stated 5300 Hospitality Place was located in Highlands Ranch. That information came from a Sheriff's Office press release, but has since been corrected to reflect the more accurate location.
