Former Georgetown officer indicted in alleged assault on DUI arrestee

The former Georgetown police officer hasn't been arrested. A summons was issued for April 24 in Clear County Court.

A former Georgetown police officer was indicted by a grand jury relating to a September 2016 assault on a man arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Jon Geiger's indictment charges him with a single count of harassment after the Sept. 26, 2016, incident, according to a release from the Fifth Judicial District Attorney's Office.

According to the unsealed indictment, the victim was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Georgetown and taken to a booking room on the opposite side of Geiger's desk.

Geiger was reportedly filling out paperwork at the time.

The arrestee reportedly got up from his seat, walked over to an unlocked cage-style holding cell inside the room - but didn't close the door behind him, according to the release.

For an unknown reason, the arrestee then began to bang the cell door open and shut.

Geiger, after an undisclosed amount of time, got up and forcibly removed the arrestee from the cage-style cell, put him in a wrist lock and shoved him up against a wall, the DA says.

The indictment says this caused the man pain.

Clear Creek County deputies on scene quickly diffused the situation.

According to the news release, the grand jury determined excessive force was used and decided to charge Geiger with the misdemeanor.

A summons has been issued for Geiger to appear in Clear Creek County court on April 24 at 9 a.m.
