A known gang-member who law enforcement says has been on the run since shooting someone in the chest in November was arrested in Fort Collins Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshal’s Office.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old John Mercado, faces charges for attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, aggravated robbery and possession of a weapon by a previous offender for the Nov. 26 shooting.
The U.S. Marshals were requested to help with the case on Jan. 19.
Multiple agencies were able to take Mercado into custody in the area of Matuka Court and Conifer Street in Fort Collins on Tuesday afternoon.
He is now being held in the Fort Collins jail.
